Numerical and Experimental Enhancement of the Aerodynamic Performance of a Road Vehicle using Passive Flow Control

This study focused on reducing the drag force of a road vehicle using passive flow control. The aerodynamic performance model was improved by applying originally designed vortex generators. drawing data and generators were in Solid Works® program. measurements visualizations performed Fluent® program with Reynolds numbers range 2.8×105-6.6×105. Accordingly, CD value base decreased 6.22%, 4.59%, 3.38%, 3.04%, respectively, generator. improvement rate can decrease fuel consumption vehicles up to 3.3% at high speeds. To verify highest numerical reduction, produced 3-D printer. mounted models lowest as CFD analysis. wind tunnel tests conducted under same test conditions for two models. It determined that experimental results supported reduction.
